It was the world’s most famous passenger ship disaster. On a cold, moonless night just before midnight, the ‘unsinkable’ RMS
Titanic struck an iceberg.
Moments before impact, lookout Frederick Fleet peered into the darkness in horror at the approach of a menacing black shape. With the icy monolith just yards away, his alarm initiated frantic efforts to slow the ship and change course. They proved fruitless. Over the next few hours, an estimated 1,517 doomed souls met their watery fate in the freezing waters of the North Atlantic.

The coin’s reverse depicts a coloured representation of the White Star Line’s poster design of
Titanic, set against the ocean and sky. The inscriptions TITANIC, 100TH ANNIVERSARY and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also incorporated into the design.
Tuvalu Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2012 year-date and the monetary denomination.
Extremely Limited Mintage
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of these coins.
